Course Aim

This programme discusses different concepts of canal shaping in modern endodontology

Course Objectives

This course will highlight the background to endodontic disease and how successful treatment is related to predictable consistent canal shaping combined with efficient canal disinfection with irrigants. The programme will also present an overview on the requirements for an ideal obturation. This will be discussed together with the issues relating to hot and cold obturation techniques and conclude with a review of contemporary obturation materials and sealers.

Course Learning Outcomes

-Be familiar with different concepts of canal shaping

-Be aware of the importance of consistent canal shaping

-Know how to decide which canal shaping technique is appropriate for individual cases

-Making obturation easy

-Indications for the use of different obturation techniques

-An awareness of obturation materials including contemporary sealers

    Dr Mike Horrocks

    BDS MSc (Programme Leader- simplyendo)

    Mike has been in clinical practice for over 30 years, having graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1984.

    He has a master’s degree in endodontics from Manchester, where he has taught postgraduate dental students on a part-time basis. He established simplyendo in 1998 to focus on endodontic treatments. Mike launched the simplyendo education programmes in 2003, and they have proved to be very popular with dentists who wish to advance their knowledge and skills in this field.

    The programmes are offered at several locations in the UK. These programmes have now been accredited to full Masters degree level and Mike spends about 50% of his time teaching and sharing his experiences and knowledge of endodontics with his professional colleagues. A member of the British Endodontic Society, Mike regularly speaks at national and international endodontic meetings and arranges demonstrations of new endodontic techniques.
